BasedOnB Places Exporter browser extension

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 August 2026

BasedOnB Places Exporter helps users collect publicly available business listing information from Google Maps pages and export it to CSV or Excel. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the extension handles and why.

In short: your results stay on your machine. The extension can also contribute the public business listings it extracts to a shared places database and read that database back to show which extra data types exist for a business — but both of those are off until you accept them inside the extension, and declining leaves you a fully working export tool that makes no network requests at all.

1. Your choice, asked before anything is sent

The first time you open the extension it describes the two network features below and asks you to accept or decline. Until you answer, no listing is contributed anywhere, no place identifier is looked up anywhere, and no installation identifier is created.

If you decline, the extension keeps scraping and exporting to CSV and Excel exactly as before, with no outbound requests and no availability indicators. Anything queued before your decision is deleted, the lookup cache is cleared, and the installation identifier is removed. You can change your mind later from the extension's main screen.

2. Information we handle

The extension reads public business listing information displayed on the Google Maps page you are viewing, such as business names, categories, addresses, contact details, websites, ratings, opening information, listed features, coordinates and public place identifiers.

If you accept the shared places database, it also processes a random installation identifier and basic request information, such as an IP address, where needed to operate and protect the service. That identifier is generated when you accept — not when you install — and is not based on your identity, hardware or Google account. If you decline, it is never created.

The extension does not access your passwords, credentials, PINs or other authentication information. It does not collect your device, GPS or IP-based location. It does not access your cookies, bookmarks, browsing history, payment information, Google account details, personal communications or content from websites other than Google Maps. It contains no advertising or analytics tracking.

3. How we use information

Information is used to:

  • Create and maintain the business list you choose to export.
  • With your consent, show whether BasedOnBusiness has additional email, social-profile or technology information for a business, including masked previews. These replies never contain a full email address, a social-profile URL or a technology name.
  • With your consent, add eligible public business listings to the shared BasedOnBusiness business dataset. This contribution is what keeps the extension free.
  • Operate, secure and improve the reliability of the extension.

Availability lookups deliberately carry no installation identifier, so they cannot be used to build a picture of where you browse.

4. Local storage, retention and deletion

Your collected export list, your consent choice and extension settings are stored locally in Chrome. You can clear the collected list from the extension, and uninstalling the extension removes its local data and stops future processing.

Clearing local results does not withdraw information already submitted or being processed by BasedOnBusiness. Contributed public business records may be retained as part of the shared dataset. Operational information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide, protect and comply with legal obligations relating to the service.

5. Sharing of information

Information is processed by BasedOnBusiness and by service providers that help us host, operate and protect the extension. Public business listing data contributed by the extension — directory information about businesses, not information about you — may be used in BasedOnBusiness products and services. The random installation identifier is never published.

We do not sell extension-user personal information or share it with advertisers, data brokers or third parties for behavioural advertising, credit assessment or unrelated profiling.

6. Security and Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Information sent by the extension is transmitted securely over HTTPS, and we use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the service.

Our use of information received from Google APIs and Google properties adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only for the extension functions described in this policy and related security, support and legal obligations. It is never used or transferred to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

7. Permissions the extension requests

  • storage — keep your collected places, your consent choice and settings across browser restarts.
  • tabs — see whether the active tab is a Google Maps page, and drive that same tab during a scrape you started.
  • scripting — attach to a Maps tab that was already open when you installed the extension.
  • alarms — retry a queued contribution after the background worker has been idle.
  • Access to google.com/maps — read the listings on the Maps page you are viewing.
  • Access to apis.basedonb.com — after you accept: send contributions to the shared places pool and look up availability signals. This is the only server the extension ever contacts.

8. Children

The extension is a business tool and is not directed at children under 13.

9. Changes and contact

We may update this policy when the extension or applicable requirements change. The current version will always be published at this address with its last-updated date.
